Mrs. Angileri has a passion for environmental education and promoting a cleaner, safe environment. In an effort to share this with students, she collaborated with the Instructional Technology Coaches using her new state of the art Promethean Board and Polycom Video Conferencing Bar to bring in a guest speaker to meet with her students.
As part of these lessons, Mrs. Angileri presents materials to the class, while also having the students research to create various presentations and posters to encourage others to learn about protecting our environment. Her students just finished posters to encourage students at Strong Middle School to recycle paper. The winner gets a $5 gift card to a local business.
Prior to COVID, her class was recycling plastics and cardboard. Students were passionate about the problem with microplastics in our waterways. This year, students have dedicated class time on Fridays to collect paper for recycling from classrooms. Students gather materials and place the paper in the recycling bin on the far side of the building.
Through connections with GFL Environmental, Mrs. Angileri was able to schedule virtual presentations with a representative, Victoria Czapski. This past Monday, she presented a lesson about various ways to reduce waste. The students interacted with her, asking questions and giving their thoughts. At this time, two additional sessions have been scheduled with the possibility of adding sustainability after the holidays.
