December 6th Incident Update

Dear Cardinal Families,

On Monday, December 6th, a threat of gun violence was reported to the administration at Strong Middle School. The administration recognized the threat as serious and contacted the Melvindale Police Department. The police responded promptly to the school and began an extensive investigation. Additionally, the school district took steps to cancel all after school events, and have the police assist in the dismissal of students from the
schools impacted by the threat.

Due to the nature of the threat and the time needed for the police to complete a thorough investigation, showing an abundance of caution, with the sole concern being the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and community, the decision was made to cancel school district wide, for Tuesday, December 7th. As the investigation progressed, the individual who made the threat was taken into custody by Melvindale Police Department and will be held as the proper authorities determine the next steps. We would like to acknowledge the response of our school staff and the Melvindale Police Department, and their efforts to end this threat as quickly and professionally, as possible.

School will resume as usual on Wednesday, December 8th. The safety of our students and staff, as well as all the stakeholders in our Cardinal community will always be our most important priority.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kimberly Soranno
Superintendent
